Port of South Louisiana Gets $13M Federal Grant for Upgrades
“These grant funds [to upgrade the Port's industrial park and allow it to carry heavier cargofunds] will go a long way to assist the Port with many very important multi-modal projects,” says Executive Director Paul Aucoin. “We want to thank Senators Cassidy and Kennedy, and Congressmen Scalise, Graves, and Richmond for their support and assistance. Air Liquide Seeks ITEP Approval for Port Allen, Geismar Expansions
Air Liquide plans to build a $145.5 million air separation unit at its Port Allen facility. The unit would create 10 new jobs, with an estimated annual payroll of $1 million. A second $139 million unit is planned for the Geismar facility and is estimated to create four new jobs with $400,000 in new payroll and to retain 40 jobs with $4 million in payroll. Read More
Change to State’s Largest Tax Break Would Give Companies Ability To Appeal
Rejections by Locals

Gov. John Bel Edwards’ administration plans to let manufacturers appeal to a state board if they are rejected by local officials for tax breaks under the state’s largest incentive program, creating an avenue for the state Board of Commerce and Industry to override the votes of locals. Read More
1,500 Businesses Licensed To Sell CBD in Louisiana
Louisiana has started handing out its first licenses to farmers allowing them to grow hemp, as the state agriculture agency finished crafting regulations for the industry here following the Legislature legalizing the growth of the crop last year. “Our industrial hemp program administrators worked hard to ensure the regulatory framework was in place as soon as feasibly possible and in time for the 2020 planting season,” said Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain. The U.K. economy extended a run of better-than-expected growth in February, more evidence of a rebound after fourth-quarter stagnation. How Emerging Markets Will Shape Africa in 2020
In recent years, Sub-Saharan Africa has increasingly traded old friends, like the US and the European Union, for new ones in emerging markets. Since 2006, the region’s exports to the US have declined by 66%, while exports to countries such as Russia and Turkey have doubled and tripled respectively. Read More

Jean C. Felts

WTC Past President (2002)

A service was recenty held honoring the life of Jean C. Felts, a renowned real estate counselor, executive, and a commercial real estate appraiser, who passed away on December 4, 2019. She was Vice President of Waguespack-Pratt, Inc. in New Orleans from 1961 to 1965 and concluded her career as the principle of Jean C. Felts and Company from 1997 to 2018. Ms. Felts served on the Board of Directors of the World Trade Center of New Orleans, commencing in 1980, and was elected as President in 2002. Read more
